66% of Dakshana Scholars Crack the IIT-JEE || Message from Mohnish Sir

Dear Dakshana Alum,

 Hope all is well. I thought you'd appreciate the great news. We prepared and supported 110 scholars for the IIT-JEE 2012 and 73 have been accepted by the IITs. 66% of our Dakshana Scholars cracked the IIT-JEE! Since 2009, 344 of our scholars have been accepted by the IITs - a 40% success rate.

For the first time with this selection of scholars, Dakshana gave preference to disabled scholars. All the toppers have either no lower limbs or severely compromised ones. Rahul Patidar and Hemant Patidar had IIT-JEE All India OBC PD ranks of 2 and 4, respectively. Shiv Kumar came in 3^rd with an IIT-JEE All-India SC PD rank of 4.

Both of Rahul's parents dropped out in the 8^th grade and eke out under $50/month in income from farming. Shiv is a victim of Polio and has no lower limbs.

Dear Dakshana scholars,

Congratulations  for cracking JEE. First of all I would suggest you to be satisfied with whatever you have achieved. I have few questions here which I feel may be of some use to you. Read them, think about other issues you must consider, speak to seniors and plan your counseling.

Should I select discipline or IIT?
If you love a discipline, you should surely give it higher preference. It is not easy to see others doing courses which you like. You will feel very comfortable with your dream branch even if you get a new IIT. At the same time the culture and trends in a IIT can give you a lot more than just a degree. So choose your IIT carefully, So that you enjoy whole of that 4 years .

Dual Degree (OR) B.Tech  ?
It is good to choose a B.Tech programme  rather than Dual degree. But if your rank can’t fetch you a programme in B.Tech and you  get that with a dual degree , you should opt for it with understanding the fact that you  have to study 5 years and not many people like dual degree.
I am interested in pure science programs. Should I prefer IITs, or IISc, or IISERs?
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore,followed by those IISERs who have already shifted to their permanent campus. Both IISc and IISERs have extremely flexible programs, where you don't have to decide your major discipline right now. Their curriculum exposes you to all branches of science, not just the discipline you will get a degree in.
Which are good among new IITs?
At present IIT Gandhinagar and Hyderabad are doing very well. It is very clear that they will arise to become good institutions.
Which IIT has the most liberal branch change rules?
As you might be knowing, even after going to IIT there is a possibility of branch change, at the same time it is very difficult to do. So you shouldn’t depend on it. Still, you can see the rules in JEE brochure.
Should I consider geographical location of IIT for choice filling?
Yes, of course; you must feel comfortable with the place. Look even how easily you can get there from your home. But it should not be considered at the cost of branch or IIT.
New IITs or good NITs?
Trere are some NITs(NIT Warangal,Suratkal,Tiruchirapalli,Allahbad,Rourkela) which are  better than few existing new IITs . But you should join them only if you feel you won’t  get some good branch in IIT.
What are the colleges that admit students based on JEE rank, but are not part of JEE Counseling.
five Indian Institutes of Science, Education and Research (IISERs) at Mohali, Pune, Kolkata, Bhopal, and Thiruvananthapuram, respectively. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) at Rai Bareli (UP), and Indian Institute of Maritime Studies (Merchant Navy). LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT), Jaipur also admits some students based on JEE performance.
Should I try one more year ?
If you have this question , please reconsider it Think about your ability, mental strength, time and parental support.

Take as many suggestions as possible, but the final decision should be yours.
You must take suggestion from your parents even if they don’t know anything about JEE counseling. At least explain them whatever you are doing. They will surely give you something which you might have missed.

So we are here to help you.  You must know, your counseling will be online. First of all collect your all required documents. When I was doing my
counseling my documents were not complete so I faced many problems. For choosing stream and college you need to give preferences. Give enough number of preferences. Last year some JEE qualified students didn't got any college because they have given less number of preferences. So you must be very careful and  don't be lazy about

COUNSELING FOR IIT JEE

            Hi friends , congratulations to all the scholars  for cracking IIT-JEE. Counseling is as important and difficult task as cracking IIT-JEE.A single mistake or delay from your side can change your whole life. Every candidate have the same question which branch should I take?or what if I don't get what I'm hoping for?

             It is always better suggestion  to  consult seniors(at least 1 from each IIT,specially the one from where you are like/likely to go).But it is always better to have your decision more priority. Read counseling brochure carefully.

           About filling options in counseling. First thing you should do check  previous year's opening and closing ranks which you will get in this link  http://www.askiitians.com/iit-jee-2011-opening-closing-ranks.aspx  . while filling give the highest priority to the the branch you

are interested most (even if  you feel  you won't get it) because of first,second allotment there will be always chance for getting a better branch.So be wise while filling it.     Number of options you have to fill

depends on your rank.it us always advisable to fill at least  10 options .       Now while filling  the options be careful  read the instructions because many of them will be consulting seniors seniors  i.e.,us  can say about what we did previous year.  But always best idea is to contact  your seniors as they are the one who experienced the difficulties and doubts that you have now.

Hi Friends

 Congratulating to  you for your success in IIT-JEE.

As we all know that this is result of two years of hard work of ownself so it should not go waste just because of silly carelessness

and negligence.

As to my thinking i would like to share some experiences....

1.first problem came to us is about preferences- do we want go to a good IIT  ( whatever subject i get )or going to iit`s according to the  good subject which we choose.

whatever be your response regardig to this aspect just be cleared that you would not get a second chance , and if you are not clear then interact withsomeone who knows better about those, or if you want we as a DAKSHANA Scholar will help you .

2.After this problem came ragarding how to us the IIT PORTAL.

This can be cleared by reding the councelling brochure and this brochure is being revived each year so we should be carefull of that and dont think that councelling will be like the last one.

3.while filling any requirement we should be very much attentive that any error don't occur.And prior to filling any thing eiher it is of about the information of you or about the course electives we want to choose,we should first read the informatin or help braces and when we are clear then we should perform according the information given there in bochure ir help brace.

4. if you have some serious problem regarding the councelling you can contact to defferent IIT'S or the IIT who is conducting JEE.

5.after you have fill the elective cources don't forget to lock those and fill enough subjects that u would be able to get the IIT.

Message to DAKSHANA SCHOLARS

During the aieee counciling , we were asked to choose colleges as per the stream we like to prefer.actually,i had not so good marks and because of that rather than choosing many colleges i only choosed few colleges as i wish......unfortunately,the seats of the colleges i had choosed were already reserved and so, my name was not listed out.....     after that i joined sikkim government college, gangtok for doing b.sc..   it is a 3 years course n during this 3 years i have subject combination of maths,     physics ,     zoology ,      chemistry and  english.....  i would liked to thank dakshana foundation and the faculty associated with it,though i had not been selected in IIT  but because of 2 years in bangalore, i find myself doing good in this course........and further i wil give my best........
